Why has the box where I text on my blackberry bold disappeared for one contact?

For one of my contacts I can't physically type a text, as there is no box to do so. It's only on one contact. I can see all the past sent and receives messages, but to send a message I have to go to my in box and select compose message, then input that particular contact. What's happened?
